This person will be a front line representative of the USFS in uniform interacting with the public as a member of a team in a position that can have 1:1 interactions, or small to medium group talks.

ASSIGNMENTS:
The primary duties would involve surveying for Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive species, such as the Mexican Spotted Owl, Tricolored Bat, Sacramento Mountain Salamander, Peñasco Least Chipmunk, New Mexico meadow jumping mouse, and the performance of a variety of land and resource management monitoring. The survey work will be physically demanding and will involve extensive daily hiking in steep terrain at high altitudes (7,000 ft to 11,500 ft), commonly during extreme or inclement weather (e.g., during monsoon rains from JulySept). At least 50% of the spotted owl inventories will be conducted at night. Additional work will involve wetland and riparian habitat restoration, bat mist netting, fish, and botany surveys on the Forest.

ecology. The student should have an interest and some knowledge of outdoor related activities. Intern should feel comfortable working in the outdoor environment.
