HSInnovators
HACU’s “HSInnovators” student track, taking place April 21-22, 2026, in Washington, D.C., provides firsthand advocacy experience through workshops, a pitch competition, and opportunities to meet with members of Congress. It empowers students to engage in meaningful advocacy, develop essential leadership skills, and learn to combine personal experiences with data to effectively present solutions to advocate for innovative change at all government levels.
Students attend two preconference sessions to learn more about advocating for Hispanic-Serving Institutions across the country, and the crucial role these colleges and universities play in educating 5.6 million students. Sessions are designed to prepare students for visits to Capitol Hill and give selected students the opportunity to present their pitch, after receiving guidance and feedback on clarity, persuasiveness, and relevance to HSI advocacy. Students attend sessions of the National Capitol Forum on Higher Education, featuring policy briefings and Capitol Hill visits with congressional leaders to advocate for HSIs and the students they serve.
