The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has partnered with American Red Cross Biomedical Services to offer 16 Emerging Leaders Council Scholarships, each in the amount of $3,000. The application deadline has been extended to April 15, 2026.
The program equips students to lead campus‑based service initiatives, strengthen donor diversity, and advance health equity through education, outreach, and community engagement. Scholarship recipients must host a minimum of three blood drives per academic year on your campus and are required to attend an in-person training May 31- June 5 in Atlanta, Georgia. Travel accommodations will be sponsored by the American Red Cross Biomedical Services.
The Emerging Leaders Council Scholarships are available to freshman, sophomore, or junior college students of all majors who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
- Must hold a leadership position on campus and an active member of a recognized student organization.
- Must be enrolled at one of the following 4-year institutions from various states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
Students must also write an essay responding to the following topic: Reflect on your experience or contributing to a meaningful project or initiative on your campus. How did you engage others, and what impact did it have? How would you apply those experiences to organizing a successful blood drive (at least three pers academic year) as part of the Emerging Leaders Council?
