HACU hosts Emerging Leaders event with University of Illinois Chicago

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities hosted an Emerging Leaders’ Summit on Oct. 2, 2025, on the campus of the University of Illinois Chicago. The event brought together over 40 students from area colleges and universities to meet with professionals and corporate representatives to learn more about career opportunities, tips for resume writing, interviewing, and securing internships.

Opening remarks were given by Aisha El-Amin, Ph.D., executive associate vice provost for student success and belonging at the University of Illinois Chicago; Gilberto Ruiz, director of government relations for the HACU Midwest Regional Office; and Elijah Serena, HACU student services program manager.

Students from the following institutions were among the participants:

  • Northeastern Illinois University
  • University of Illinois Chicago
  • Wilbur Wright College, City Colleges of Chicago
  • Harold Washington College, City Colleges of Chicago
  • Governors State University
  • DePaul University
  • Dominican University

HACU’s Emerging Leaders’ Summit provides students from HACU-member institutions with opportunities to develop their leadership potential. Participants are given opportunities to engage with industry professionals to gain valuable career insights.

The next Emerging Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place on Nov. 14, 2025, at New Jersey City University.
