Inspiring Undergraduate Students to Pursue Careers in the Energy Industry
The Building Hispanic Talent InitiativeĀ® (BHTI) partnership between HACU and Dominion Energy launched in 2022, designed to develop a highly skilled workforce by increasing the number of undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in the energy industry.Ā While the program emphasizes support for Hispanic students, it is open to students of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds attending the seven participating institutions.

Program Objectives
The partnership was launched with the following goals:Ā
- Increase the number of undergraduate students pursuing STEM majorsĀ
- Expand participation of underserved and first-generation students participating in summer bridge programsĀ
- Enhance student awareness of academic and career pathways in STEM fields and energyĀ
Partnering Institutions
The program has awarded over 5,000 college credits to over 1,500 students, of which 60% were first generation.
Dominion Energy committed an additional $2 million in 2024 to continue the initiative for four more years (2025-2028) due to the success of the initiative.
Summer bridge programs in science, technology, engineering and math high help school students develop a college-going identity and explore careers in STEM, in the energy industry specifically. Seven post-secondary institutions are funded through the BHTI partnership to implement these STEM summer bridge programs.Ā Ā

- LabsĀ
- Seminars/WorkshopsĀ
- Service-learning opportunitiesĀ
- SpeakersĀ
