HACU Advocacy Center

The Advocacy Center assists advocates and other stakeholders to be heard on the most important public policy issues affecting Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other HACU-member institutions, by providing resources to communicate with lawmakers and their staff in Washington, D.C.

State Advocacy

The Arizona State Legislature consists of a lower house, the House of Representatives with 60 members, and an upper house, the Senate with 30 members. The state is divided into 30 electoral districts, two representatives and one senator share each of the electoral district.

The California State Legislature consists of a lower house, the State Assembly with 80 members, and an upper house, the State Senate with 40 members.  The state is divided into 40 legislative districts, each of which elect one senator and two assembly members.

The Nevada Legislature is a bicameral legislature consisting of the lower house, Nevada Assembly with 42 members, and the upper house Nevada Senate with 21 members. All 63 members of the Legislature are elected from an equal amount of constituent districts from across the state. 

The Oregon Legislative Assembly is a bicameral legislature consisting of a lower house, House of Representatives with 60 members, and an upper house, the Senate with 30 members.  Each Senate district is composed of exactly two House districts with two representatives and one senator sharing each of the state’s 30 electoral districts.

The Washington State Legislature is a bicameral legislature consisting of the lower Washington House of Representatives with 98 members Representatives, and the upper Washington State Senate with 49 members plus the Lieutenant Governor acting as President. The state is divided into 49 legislative districts, each of which elect one senator and two representatives.
