The Galeno Program offered by HACU in partnership with Universidad de Iberoamérica Costa Rica (UNIBE) provides a medical education for aspiring physicians with UNIBE’s innovative, world-class Doctorate of Medicine and Surgery. The growing physician shortage and a critical need for greater representation of underserved communities in medicine requires the development of the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Program Information

HACU and UNIBE Costa Rica’s Galeno program prepares students to become well-rounded, bicultural physicians. Students enter a comprehensive program to earn a medical degree in just five years and four months, with day one hands-on training providing immediate real-world clinical experience.  

The five-year, four-month program features global clinical rotations with student access to opportunities in the U.S., Europe, and Central and South America. Student support services provide personalized guidance throughout the program. A bilingual curriculum has students practice in both English and Spanish. No MCAT or premed required, but any earned premed credits may be applied upon acceptance.


 

Eligibility

Minimum Participant Section Requirements are:

  • Minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from high school or any college/university attended
  • Online application 
  • Copy of passport
  • High school diploma
  • High school transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Vaccination record
  • Medical report certifying the overall health status of the student
