HACU and UNIBE partner to prepare next generation of healthcare leaders

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has partnered with Universidad de Iberoamérica Costa Rica (UNIBE) to offer aspiring physicians a medical education pathway with the Galeno Program.

America’s growing physician shortage and critical need for greater representation of underserved communities in medicine requires innovative approaches to medical careers and expanding access to high-quality education. UNIBE Costa Rica offers a world-class Doctorate of Medicine and Surgery providing a state-of-the-art medical education and immersive clinical training in a comprehensive program. Students earn a degree in five years and four months resulting in well-rounded, bicultural physicians. The application deadline is June 30, 2025.

Program features include no MCAT or premed requirements, bilingual curriculum, global clinical rotation opportunities in the U.S., Europe, Central and South America, and personalized guidance throughout the program. Credit will be granted for any applicable pre-med courses. Admission requirements include:

  • Digital application form
  • Copy of passport
  • High school diploma
  • High school transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Vaccination record
  • Medical report certifying the overall health status of the student
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from high school or any college/university attended
