First VOLARÉ Institute cohort meets for three-day event 

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ Visioning, Organizing, Leading, and Advancing the Research Enterprise (VOLARÉ) Institute inaugural cohort met at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter hotel March 21-24, 2025, to begin a yearlong program of activities training a new research workforce at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). The VOLARÉ Institute is grant funded by the National Science Foundation’s Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Equity and Diversity initiative, with VOLARÉ Institutes encompassing three cohorts of institutions over three years.

Approximately 60 participants from HSIs attended sessions covering topics on the research enterprise ecosystem, partnerships for stronger grant applications, and collaborative and interdisciplinary research, as well as featuring discussion groups, plenaries with experts on federal grant opportunities and collaborative work sessions.
