HACU holds the International Plenary of its 38th Annual Conference

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities held the International Plenary, “Fostering Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation in Cross-border Education,” on Nov. 3, 2024. The event was part of HACU’s 38th Annual Conference, “Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Reaching New Heights of Excellence and Equity,” held Nov. 1-3, 2024, in Aurora, Colorado.

During the plenary the Exemplary International HACU-Member Institution Award was presented to the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education, in recognition of an institution that has excelled in supporting HACU’s international work. Director Alfonso Gentil Álvarez-Ossorio accepted the award on behalf of SEPIE.

Fulbright Foreign Scholarship board member Carmen Estrada Schaye, Ed.D., announced the U.S. Department of State 50 Hispanic-Serving Institutions 2024 Fulbright HSI Leaders, recognized for their noteworthy engagement with the Fulbright program.

The plenary’s panel discussion was moderated by Rector Fernando León García, Ed.D., Rector of CETYS Universidad Baja California. The International Plenary featured the following speakers:

  • Carlos Basurto Meza, vice president of liaison, effectiveness, and academic services of the Universidad de Monterrey
  • Odile Camilo Vincent Ph.D., rectora of the Universidad Iberoamericana
  • Christian Reyes Méndez, rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Santa Rosa Jáuregui
