The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has announced the agenda and speakers of its Tenth PreK-12/Higher Education Collaboration Symposium taking place Nov. 1, 2024, at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Aurora, Colorado. The one-day pre-conference Symposium includes three moderated panels and addresses by education leaders.
Three panel sessions will focus on the following topics:
“Reclaiming Our Language: The Importance of Dual Language and Pathway Programs,” with panelists Beatriz Ceja, deputy director of the office of English Language Acquisition. The panel will be moderated by Evelyn DeJesus, executive vice president for the American Federation of Teachers and president of the National Association for Bilingual Education.
"Connecting K-12 and Higher Education through Career and Technical Education (CTE): Preparing Students for the Workforce of the Future," with panelists Jesus Rodriguez, Ed.D., deputy superintendent of Aurora Public Schools, Department of Education CTE division, Leo Gordon, Vice President for Career and Technical Education High Schools, United Federation of Teachers, and Hector Balderas J.D., president, Northern New Mexico College. The panel will be moderated by Asa Gordon, Director of Middle and Secondary College and Career Readiness, East Aurora School District 131.
"Bridging Horizons: Forging Strategic Partnerships for Educational Excellence," with panelists Aurely Garcia Tulloch, Columbia University senior research assistant, Teachers College; and Katherine Doss, Dallas College associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. The panel will be moderated by Jesus Rodriguez, Ed.d., deputy superintendent of Aurora Public Schools, Department of Education CTE division.
A lunch keynote address will be given by Joe Garcia, J.D., chancellor, Colorado Community College System.
