HACU signs MOU with the Embassy of Mexico

SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities signed a memorandum of understanding on June 14, 2024, with the Embassy of Mexico at their Washington, D.C. embassy to develop scientific and educational ties, and advance the strategic economic priorities shared between the United States. and Mexico through academic institutions and other organizations. HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, Embassy of Mexico in the U.S. signed the MOU on behalf of both organizations.

“HACU is proud to partner with the Embassy of Mexico to benefit the students of both nations in creating a new generational cohort of medical professionals, as well as in the broad field of STEM and related disciplines,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “This MOU with the Embassy of Mexico is historic and higher education institutions from both countries can accomplish so much more when working together towards a common goal, that of increasing and expanding the numbers of diverse professionals in the sciences who have an international and multicultural perspective.”

The MOU is intended to identify opportunities for collaboration between HACU and Mexican public and private educational institutions, especially Mexican universities with medical schools accredited in the United States to foster the exchange of students and young professionals. Opportunities for university graduates from both countries to mentor and teach STEM disciplines in high schools will be fostered, especially those located in U.S. school districts with a high Hispanic population density.

Other elements of the MOU include exploring the development of a binational internship program, visits or academic stays by professors, researchers and administrators of colleges and universities to promote international mobility, and the creation of intensive language and culture programs in English and Spanish between HACU-member institutions and Mexican colleges and universities.
