College students take part in in HACU’s 14th International Conference Student Track
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities held a Student Track for participants from U.S. colleges and universities as part of HACU’s 14th International Conference June 3-5, 2024, at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. Approximately 28 students took part in tours and visits to Pontificial University as well as the University of Salamanca, along with sessions specifically geared to expand academic and professional development within an international context.
Student sessions included: “Ping Pong Works En Both Lenguas,” on a student’s experience with differing perspectives between advice, workplace culture, and language; “Developing Cultural Intelligence and Global Competence through Interdisciplinary Experiential Learning: A Case Study in Zamora, Spain,” on curated transformative experiential learning in three countries; “The Importance of Mentoring Experiences for Underrepresented Students,” on the importance of having mentoring programs for underrepresented students; “Charlas sin Verguenza in Higher Education- STEM,” advocating for a decolonized approach, challenging assimilation and fostering non-dominant cultural thinking in developing Latina/o scholar cohorts; and “Mi CASA es su CASA: Culture, Community-Building, and Creativity,” with three educators showcasing the power of storytelling, active learning, and deep listening in their approaches to teaching and building culture in the workplace.
HACU’s 14th International Conference was held on June 3-5, 2024, at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain.
