HACU’s 14th International Conference kicks off with Opening Ceremony and Plenary Session I

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities kicked off its 14th International Conference with an Opening Ceremony on June 3, 2024, at the University of Salamanca. Over 250 attendees were in Spain for the Conference. HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores gave a welcome address followed by Junta de Castilla y León Consejera of Education María del Rocío Lucas Navas; Salamanca Mayor Carlos Manuel Garcia Carbayo, Chancellor of Alamo Colleges District and HACU Governing Board Chair Mike Flores; and University of Salamanca Rector Juan Manuel Corchado Rodríguez.

Following the Ceremony, Plenary Session I “International Higher Education: A Driver for Innovation and Workforce Diversity” was held for attendees. The session offered complementary perspectives on the role of international higher education as a driver of innovation and workforce diversity, the specific needs of underserved populations and explored new collaborative approaches.

Speakers at the session framed as a moderated conversation were HACU President and CEO Antonio. R. Flores, Universidad de Salamanca Vice President Raúl Sánchez Prieto, moderated by Universidad de Iberoamérica President Emma Hernández Flores, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Key topics during the conversation were: access and equity, innovation and entrepreneurship, international collaboration, cultural competency, and community engagement.
