The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities partnered with Google who hosted the 8th Annual Google Latinx Student Leadership Summit (LSLS) at the Google offices in Chicago, Illinois on April 19-21, 2024. Fifty undergraduate Latinx student leaders from across the nation with a passion for technology participated in leadership development activities during the three-day summit.
"Juntxs: Our Latinx Journey in Tech" served as the guiding theme, celebrating the collective strength of Latinx students' voices and experiences. Stories of students bridging multiple modes of identifying, stories of students creating a space for people of color in predominantly white spaces, stories of students breaking generational ideas of who can and cannot succeed in higher education. The agenda included breakout discussions to foster community within their Familia Groups, keynote speakers, networking with the Latinx Googler Network (from HOLA and Talent Outreach representatives), HACU, and Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
The summit was focused on four key goals: equipping students with hands-on workshops to prepare them for successful tech careers, cultivating students' unique "Latinx leadership" styles, showcasing Google's dedication to supporting the Latinx tech talent pipeline, and deepening the connection between Googlers and Google's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
During a presentation focused on student programs, Hugo Cantero, Student Services Manager, and Richard Montez, Executive Director of Member Services, highlighted the importance of what it means to be attending a HSI.
The Latinx Student Leadership Summit (formally known as the Hispanic Student Leadership Summit), now in its eighth year, was created as an effort to bring Latinx leaders together to share innovative and creative best practices with one another, as well as collaborate with Google's Latinx leadership to benefit your university, organization, and community.
