The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is hosting a HACU-member webinar titled, “Empowering First-Gen Latinx Students to Increase Their Social Capital,” on May 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. CT.
The webinar will focus on the I am First Program at California State University Fullerton, which is designed to teach first-generation college students how to build social capital with potential employers through a scaffolded curriculum. This curriculum is based on students' existing assets and helps them develop skills that can enhance their post-college outcomes, boost their self-confidence, increase their social mobility, and improve their return on investment. Presenters will discuss the program's effectiveness, share data, and provide best practices for implementation. They will also explain how this curriculum can promote equity at Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
The webinar will be presented by Marieli Rubio, partner and director of impact at Career Launch, and, Stephanie Reyes, acting director for the career center at CSU Fullerton.
