The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement regarding President Biden’s FY 2025 Budget Proposal, announced on March 11, 2024:
“HACU appreciates President Biden's proposed funding increases for programs supporting Hispanic-Serving Institutions within the Department of Education,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “However, the proposal falls short in proportionally supporting the rapidly expanding network of HSIs, which are instrumental in educating more than 5 million students.”
The President's budget suggests a modest increase of $21.3 million, an 8.3 percent increase, from the FY 2024 Continuing Resolution level—a figure that mirrors the FY23 allocations. Under the proposal, discretionary allocations for HSI Programs are as follows:
Additionally, President Biden request $100 million for Mandatory Developing HSI STEM and Articulation Programs.
HACU remains dedicated to collaborating with the Administration and Congress to secure equitable funding that matches the growth of HSIs and addresses the educational needs of over 5 million students.
