The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities hosted a virtual Emerging Leaders’ Summit focused on preparing students for internships and career opportunities in various fields. The event was hosted with the University of Arizona and brought together 59 students from over 50 colleges and universities to meet and learn from professionals and corporate representatives for a one-day event on Sept. 8, 2023.
A welcome address was given by Marla Franco, vice president, HSI Initiatives at the University of Arizona, followed by a leadership skills activity lead by Aaron Davis Martinez, associate director, Blue Chip Leadership Experience at the University of Arizona.
Students participated in sessions that focused on “Developing and Articulating Your Skills,” “Building Skills & Experience through Internships and other Experiences,” “Discovering the Benefits of Internships and Strategies to Aid in Your Internship Search,” “Optimizing Your LinkedIn Profile,” and “Bringing Self-Care into your Work.”
Corporate partners that held career preparation workshops and panels included: ADP, Altria, Endeavor, Fidelity Investments, Future Housing Leaders (Fannie Mae), Nordstrom and Pima Community College.
The next Emerging Leaders’ Summit will take place in-person on Sept 29, 2023, from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30- p.m. CT. The in-person event is being presented in partnership with St. Mary’s University.
