The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities held a financial proficiency and career exploration workshop, ¡Finanzas y Futuro!, for approximately 130 students from the University of Texas at San Antonio on July 27, 2023. The event was designed to showcase the Hispanic Financial Education and Competencies USAA Grant Program, which is a program that seeks to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge they need for a successful and prosperous financial future.
Speakers of the event included Oralia De los Reyes, HACU assistant vice president for programs and services and Norma Guerra, associate vice provost for faculty diversity and inclusion at UTSA, who spoke on the USAA Grant Program for Hispanic Financial Education and Competencies.
During the event, students participated in various activities that were focused on career preparation, resume building, interview skills, mastering personal finance, and on tax filing. Also attending were area college and high school educators and administrators to observe so they can replicate the activities on their own campuses.
The event is part of the Hispanic Financial Education and Competencies Program made possible by a grant from USAA that is designed to help both high school and college students maneuver the complexities of financial assistance, credit worthiness, and long-term strategies to ensure their financial independence and well-being.
