HACU honors civil rights and labor activist on Cesar Chavez Day

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities joins in the celebrations of honoring the life of César Chávez on March 31, 2023. Through his work with Dolores Huerta, United Farm Workers of America, and many others, he drew national attention to working conditions and unlivable wages that many agricultural workers experienced.

“Today we celebrate the work of César Chávez and his legacy that serves as an inspiration for future generations to continue advocacy efforts for justice and equality,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “HACU encourages all to come together to honor his legacy through acts of service to advance the cause for social justice for all Americans.”

César Chávez co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in the early 1960s. He focused attention on the plight of migrant farm workers and gained support to have his organization be the first successful farm workers’ union in the United States. His efforts led the cause for safe and healthy workplaces, better wages, improved workplace protections from sickness and disability, and other core rights and protections.
