HACU to host virtual briefing for Hispanic-Serving Institutions on NIFA’s new funding opportunity, NEXTGEN, September 29

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is partnering with the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to offer a virtual briefing on a new funding opportunity titled From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals Program (NEXTGEN), Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, 3-4 p.m. EDT.

The grant opportunity will provide up to $250 million in funding for scholarship support, experiential learning opportunities, and outreach and engagement programs to build awareness of agriculture-related career opportunities. Maximum award amounts range from $5,000,000 to $20,000,000.

  • Deadline: Submissions due by November 15, 2022
  • Letter of Intent (LOI): is due on September 16, 2022 (LOI is encouraged but not required)

Eligible applicants include the following:

  • Hispanic-Serving Institutions
  • Alaska Native-serving Institutions and Native Hawaiian-serving Institutions
  • Insular Area institutions of Higher Education located in the U.S. territories
  • 1890 Land-grant Institutions (Historically Black Land-grant Universities)
  • 1994 Land-grant Institutions (Tribal Colleges and Universities)

The briefing will provide an overview of the NEXGEN program. HACU Government Relations staff will be joined by: Irma Lawrence, Ed.D., National Program Leader, Institute of Youth, Family, and Community; Carlos Ortiz, Ph.D., National Program Leader, Institute of Youth, Family, and Community; and Kellyann Jones-Jamtgaard, Ph.D., Program Specialist, Institute of Youth, Family, and Community.
