The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has announced the agenda and speakers of its Eighth PreK-12/Higher Education Collaboration Symposium taking place, Oct. 8, 2022, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. The one-day Symposium, sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers, will address topics under the theme “Engaging Communities, Engaging Families.”
Three panel sessions will focus on the following topics:
“Building an Ecosystem of Support for Students: Family and Community Partnerships,” panelists will include Adriana Badillo, director of Center for Educational Partnerships California State University, Fullerton; Carlos Cruz, Ed.D., dean of student care network Dallas College; Mariana Gomez, GEAR UP data & excellence coordinator. California State University, Fullerton; and Nancy Navarro, assistant director for diversity recruitment, Northern Arizona University.
"Building Bridges: Career Preparation and Outreach Programs," panelists will include Emilio Ulloa, Ph.D., associate chief diversity officer for HSI and regional affairs, San Diego State University; Hennessy Bas-Concepcion, mechanical components engineer, Dominion Energy; Harold Stanislaw, Ph.D., professor of psychology and ASPIRE evaluator, California State University, Stanislaus; and Mose Harris IV, HHS pathways to public service recruiter, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
"Leveraging Title V Funds: Examples of Effective Collaborative Programs," panelists will include Lisa Petrov, Ph.D., Title V project director of strengthening advising, teacher education and our HSI identity, Dominican University; Janna Bernstein, Ph.D., Title V director of El Mapa Matemático/Math Map, College of Southern Nevada; Cindy Trejo, Ph.D., Title V program director of Project Outreach FAMILIA, The University of Arizona; and Gabriela Cázares, Ph.D., Title V program director of EDUCAL, California Lutheran University.
