HACU Statement on Uvalde, Texas
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement regarding the tragic events that occurred at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas:
“HACU joins the nation and beyond in mourning for the devastating and tragic loss of so many lives at the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, last Tuesday. Words cannot fully express our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the 19 children and two teachers,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.
“The magnitude of this loss of precious life in a place where children should feel safe and secure is inexplicable and heartbreaking. Texas and the nation need to restore common sense public safety policies that prevent the use of weapons of war in our communities and schools. We need investments in better educational opportunities for all children and their protection from criminal behavior. We echo the countless pleas for action to make America safe again,” added Flores.The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, founded in 1986, represents more than 500 colleges and universities in the United States, Latin America, Spain, and school districts throughout the U.S. HACU is the only national association representing existing and emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).
