FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 29, 2022
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has released the following statement on President Biden’s FY 2023 Budget Proposal released on March 28, 2022. The President’s request includes a grand total of $440 million or $80.69 million more than appropriated in FY 2022. The complete budget details can be found here.
“We applaud the President for continuing to address the needs of the more than 500 Hispanic-Serving Institutions; however, the funding does not adequately redress the ongoing inequity our HSIs face,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “HSI students are a microcosm of America’s diversity and the backbone of educational opportunity for underserved populations.”
Below is a summary:
U.S. Department of Education: A total of $365.5 million or $68.69 million more than for FY 2022 is proposed under Titles V and III:
National Science Foundation:
U.S. Department of Agriculture:
The Federal Pell Grant Program:
The President’s budget does not include funding for the Endowment Fund program for Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities. This program remains unfunded.
“HACU will continue to advocate for equitable funding from both the administration and Congress for our underfunded and underserved institutions that champion academic attainment and success,” added Flores.
