HACU Statement on State of the Union Address
SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s first State of the Union address.
“Last night, President Biden provided reassurance that we are heading in the right direction as we put the difficulties of the last two years behind us; however, HACU urges the administration to also support historic investments in Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), similar to HBCUs, at a commensurate level,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “While we appreciate President Biden highlighting the importance of postsecondary education and increasing the Pell grant, a commitment from the administration is necessary for the 569 HSIs, which have been severely underfunded and underserved over the last two decades, to educate and serve the 5.24 million students who represent the future of America’s labor workforce.”
