HACU statement on confirmation of Robert Santos as Director of U.S. Census Bureau
SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement commending the Senate confirmation of Robert Santos to lead the U.S. Census Bureau.
“HACU congratulates Robert Santos on his confirmation as the next director of the U.S. Census Bureau,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “His historic confirmation as the first Latino to lead the U.S. Census Bureau puts him in a unique position to better understand the plight of minority communities. His leadership will lay the groundwork for ensuring an accurate and fair count for political representation and federal funding for the next census.”
Santos, a third-generation Mexican American statistician from San Antonio, Texas, currently serves as the president of the American Statistical Association board and as the vice president and chief methodologist at the Urban Institute in Washington D.C. He holds more than 40 years of experience in quantitative and qualitative research design, sampling, survey operations, and statistical analysis.
“HACU is committed to supporting and working with Director Santos in his new role at the U.S. Census Bureau,” added Flores.
