MEMBER ADVISORY
July 29, 2021
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is providing information about the announcement by the U.S. Department of Education of $3.2 billion in additional emergency grants under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) from the American Rescue Plan, CARES Act, and CRRSAA. These funds will support students and provide resources to institutions of higher education to help them recover from the impacts of the pandemic.
Of the $3.2 billion, $1.19 billion will be provided to Minority-Serving Institutions, including Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs), with $609.4 million going to HSIs. Additionally, $1.6 billion will go to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and $143 million will go to Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCUs).
HACU is grateful to the U.S. Department of Education for issuing this guidance and making critical funds available to these higher education institutions. HACU will continue to advocate for additional equitable funding for HSIs as Congress debates the Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations.
For more information about the recently released funds, including institution funding allocations, please visit the U.S. Department of Education website.
