HACU names Lisa Alcorta, Ph.D., as new senior vice president of programs and operations

SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has announced the appointment of Lisa Alcorta, Ph.D., as the senior vice president of programs and operations. Alcorta will be responsible for the operations of the Association and implementation of policies, goals and objectives set by the president/CEO and Governing Board, effective August 2, 2021.

She joins HACU with 20 years of experience in higher education. Most recently Alcorta served as vice president for student success at San Antonio College-Alamo Colleges District. Prior to that position, she served as director of developmental education and Achieving the Dream under the vice chancellor of academic success for the Alamo Colleges District.

“Dr. Lisa Alcorta brings a wealth of experience and success in higher education administration and working at the school district level,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “We look forward to welcoming Dr. Alcorta as HACU’s senior vice president for programs and operations. Her leadership and contributions in collaboration with staff will help further the success of the Association for years to come.”

Alcorta’s previous positions include working at The University of Texas at Austin, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Victoria College of Texas. She also has 10 years serving the community in public education, mental health services and protective services.

She has presented nationally on Guided Pathways, enrollment and advising practices, and developmental education among other diverse topics. Her research interests include college access and completion, strategic enrollment management, and data-informed practices to increase the educational attainment of students of color and first-generation college students.

Alcorta earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from The University of Texas at San Antonio, a Master of Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University, and a doctorate in educational administration from The University of Texas at Austin.
