HACU statement on the selection of Eloy Ortiz Oakley for a temporary post with the Biden Administration
SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement on the White House’s selection of Eloy Ortiz Oakley as Special Advisor to serve in a temporary role to provide advice on higher education policy to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
“The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities applauds President Joe Biden on his selection of Eloy Ortiz Oakley to serve as Special Advisor to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “Mr. Ortiz has been a successful advocate and champion of California’s community colleges. His extensive professional experiences in higher education make him the ideal choice to promote the Biden Administration’s higher education policies.”
Eloy Ortiz Oakley has served as the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges since December 2016. Prior to that role, he served as the Superintendent and President of Long Beach City College, a position he held from 2007-2016. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental analysis and design and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine.
“HACU is committed to supporting and working with Mr. Oakley in his new role at the Department of Education,” added Flores.
