The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is partnering with the White House to offer a virtual briefing on President Joe Biden’s American Families Plan on Wednesday, June 23, 1-2 p.m. EDT. HACU-member presidents/CEOs, chancellors, and other senior administrator are invited to attend the briefing. To register for this briefing, click here.

The American Families Plan (AFP) is a proposal from President Biden introduced on April 28, 2021. The investments in AFP will promote increased social and economic mobility through educational attainment. It will provide two years of subsidized tuition for students, whose families earn less than $125,000, enrolled at 4-year Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and other Minority-Serving Institutions. It also includes two years of community college free. The AFP also includes a $5 billion plan to expand exiting institutional aid grants to HSIs and other MSIs.

The AFP also calls to increase the Pell Grant award by $1,475, which is a down payment to the Administration’s commitment to double the maximum award. The plan also allows DACA recipients eligible for Pell Grants if they meet the standard requirements for the aid.

The virtual briefing will include presenters: Cedric Richmond, Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement and Katherine Valle, Director of Higher Education for Domestic Policy Council, who will provide an overview of the American Families Plan and how it will affect HSIs, if enacted. This briefing is an invitation only event, intended only for the college and university administrators receiving this email.
