HACU releases 2020 Annual Report
SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, the nation’s champion of Hispanic higher education success and the only nationally recognized voice for the 569 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), has released its 2020 Annual Report.
In the Annual Report letter, HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and HACU Governing Board, Chair and President of Los Angeles Mission College, Monte E. Pérez provided an overview of accomplishments by the Association, despite the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Excerpt below:
“Much like everyone else in the country and across the world, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities faced the challenges of working remotely while mitigating the dangers of COVID-19. The majority of the Association’s events after March 2020 became virtual, and programs involving students were changed in structure and approach to ensure the safety of all participants of internships, summits, and workshops.”
With the help of HACU members, the Association persistently advocated for more funding for HSIs. Advocating for equitable funding in emergency relief funds for HSIs under the COVID-19 relief package was among the priorities. FY 2020 funding amounts for HSIs represented the highest totals to date (except for Title V, Part B).
The Annual Report highlights advocacy efforts, HACU’s membership, conferences and events, financials, leadership programs, student services and activities supported by HACU’s staff at its National Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, and regional offices in Sacramento, California and Washington, D.C.
