HACU Statement on California Governor Newsom's 2021-22 May Revision Budget Proposal

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has issued the following statement in response to Governor Newsom’s proposed May Revision to the 2021-2022 State Budget:

“The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities applauds much of the investments made in the May Revision to the state budget including supporting critical broadband access, regional collaborations that can help address opportunity and achievement gaps, restoring the cuts to the University of California and California State University systems, and restoring the deferrals to the California Community Colleges,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. HACU also is also pleased that the budget addresses homelessness and the mental health of college students.

“While there is much to applaud, we also look forward to the Administration and Legislature addressing other important issues such as financial aid, funding for higher education institutions to address achievement gaps and ensure that the regional collaborations occur in the state’s most diverse and underserved areas, and a stronger focus on K-12 and higher education collaborations that enable students to succeed academically.”
