HACU statement of solidarity and support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community
SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement of solidarity and support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and condemns the hate crimes and rising number of attacks on Asian Americans.
“I wish to express on behalf of HACU our support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in the face of unprecedented hatred and racism in America. We offer our condolences to the families who are mourning their loved ones,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “We condemn the Atlanta area attacks. The loss of life in this latest national tragedy reminds us that the work towards equality and justice for all is far from over. Our advocacy work on behalf of underrepresented students includes over 40% of all Asian American college students attending Hispanic-Serving Intitutions, and they are a vital part of the American community.”
“We call on all Americans to reject the divisiveness and prejudice that these attacks stem from. We are only stronger when working together and can only thrive as a nation when every person is valued - not regardless but because of our enriching differences.”
