HACU statement on passage of the Dream and Promise Act by the House

SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has released the following statement applauding the House for passing the Dream and Promise Act and urging the Senate to do so as well.

“HACU commends the House for expeditiously passing the Dream and Promise Act,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “The nation will benefit from the education and employment of regularized Dreamers. To address current workforce challenges, it is critical for the U.S. to draw on the skills and energy of all immigrants.”

The American Dream and Promise Act is a promising legislative solution. H.R. 6 would allow young immigrants, brought to this country as children, to continue living where they have been raised since childhood; achieve upward mobility through higher education or military service; gain a path to citizenship and contribute to and improve the American economy. As many as 2 million such undocumented immigrants in the U.S. would benefit from the enactment of the Dream Act, according to the Migration Policy Institute.

“HACU encourages its members to reach out to their Senators and urge them act swiftly to pass the Dream and Promise Act.”
