The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities hosted a virtual Emerging Leaders Summit focused on preparing students for internships and career opportunities in various fields. The event was hosted with Texas A&M University–San Antonio, and brought together students from 20 colleges and universities online with professionals and corporate representatives for a one-day event on Feb. 26, 2021.
Opening remarks were given by Cynthia Teniente-Matson, president of Texas A&M University–San Antonio. Students participating represent the following majors: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), finance, accounting, business, communications and marketing.
Workshop topics focused on career preparation, interviewing skills, and workplace mentorship. The agenda sessions include: “Making Connections at the Workplace: The Importance of Mentorship,” “Technical Etiquette: Putting Your Best (Digital) Foot Forward,” and “Your Best Virtual Interview Ever.”
Information about the HACU National Internship Program was be provided to participants. Representatives from the following corporations were present to meet with students during the Employer Showcase: Corteva Agriscience; GM Financial; Future Housing Leaders; Oracle; PetSmart; and XPO Logistics.
