HACU National Internship Program welcomes spring session interns with virtual orientation
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities welcomed college students to HACU’s National Internship Program. More than 60 students participated in a virtual orientation on Jan. 7, 2021, for interns serving virtual internships in the spring session. All spring interns will work remotely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A welcome was given by HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores, followed by staff remarks about the internship program. Former intern, Joseph Olan, spoke to interns about his experience interning at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta and what he learned. “[The internship] shaped my work ethic and helped me develop 21st century readiness skills.” In addition, he said the experience “opened my eyes to various perspectives,” he advised interns to share their positive internship experiences with HACU. Olan is a principal at the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Uvalde, TX.
The following agencies in the Washington, D.C., metro area and field offices throughout the country are among those providing these virtual internship opportunities to students:

- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
- U.S. Census Bureau
- U.S. Department of Agriculture
- U.S. Department of Treasury

HACU is accepting applications for summer internships that run from June 3 - Aug. 13, 2021 (Regular Session). A later start date is available only for applicants who attend institutions that operate on a quarter calendar. Internship dates: June 17 - Aug. 27, 2021 (Quarter Session).
