The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has announced National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) week will be observed Sept. 14-20, 2020. The observance takes place during National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
According to the most recent data analyzed by HACU from the 2018-19 academic year, 539 Hispanic-Serving Institutions are in 181 Congressional Districts in 25 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Each year, HACU government relations staff works with members of Congress to recognize the contributions of Hispanic-Serving Institutions in their communities.
“While Hispanic-Serving Institutions may not be able to celebrate as usual, due to COVID-19, we encourage HSIs to use social media platforms to commemorate National HSIs Week and create awareness of the value HSIs provide to countless students and communities across the nation,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.
Hispanic-Serving Institutions are encouraged to observe the week with activities that heighten awareness of the important role HSIs play in improving access to education and advancing equity for historically underserved students.
