Five students receive scholarships as part of the Emerging Leaders Summit at Metropolitan State University of Denver

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities hosted an Emerging Leaders Summit, focused on career development, at Metropolitan State University of Denver. The one-day event held on Feb. 25, 2020, at the MSU campus in Denver, Colo., brought together over 60 local students from five area colleges and universities to network with professionals and corporate representatives.

Opening remarks were given by Michael Benitez, Jr., Ph.D., vice president for diversity and inclusion of Metropolitan State University of Denver. Among the students in attendance were those majoring in STEM, business, communications and marketing fields. Students received tips on resume writing, interviewing skills, and securing internship opportunities.

Workshop topics focused on career preparation, interviewing skills, and securing internship opportunities. The agenda sessions included: “Beyond Hollywood: Get the Real Perspective on Cool Opportunities in the Central Intelligence Agency,” “9 Things I Wish I Knew as An Undergraduate: How to Advocate for Yourself and Others to Lead in a More Inclusive Future,” and “Life @ Google.”

Representatives from the following corporations participated in the Employer Resource Fair: Charles Schwab; CIA; Google; Fannie Mae: Future Housing Leaders; Empower Retirement; and FirstBank.

Five participants of the Summit received scholarships to attend the 2020 HACU ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute (Student Track) taking place at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Oct. 31 - Nov. 2, 2020., in conjunction with HACU’s Annual Conference.
