Recruiting and retaining Hispanic students the focus of HACU’s Seventh Annual Deans’ Forum

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will host its Seventh Annual Deans’ Forum on Hispanic Higher Education, a post-conference event of HACU's 32nd Annual Conference. The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 09, 2018, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Atlanta, Georgia.

The Annual Deans' Forum is designed to give deans and administrators the opportunity to discuss issues related to the diversification of their student populations. This year’s Deans’ Forum will address the topic “The Future of U.S. Education: Best Practices for Recruiting and Retaining Hispanic Students,” focusing on recruitment and retention of Hispanic students through community and institutional support.

Frank Sánchez, Ph.D., president, Rhode Island College will give the opening keynote presentation which will be followed by two panels on the topics of “Building Relationships – Recruiting Hispanic Students” and "Beyond Academic Intelligence: Noncognitive Skills and Student Success in Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs)."

  • Katia Paz Goldfarb, Ph.D., assistant vice president for Hispanic-Serving initiatives, Montclair State University 
  • Amanda M. Quintero, Ph.D., executive director, student academic success & equity initiatives, CSU Channel Islands 
  • Adolfo Santos, Ph.D., assistant provost, Higher Education Center, Texas A&M University 
  • Amaris del Carmen Guzman, Ph.D., manager of community outreach, Valencia College 
  • Ross Markle, Ph.D., senior assessment strategist, higher education division, Educational Testing Service (ETS)
  • Michael E. Nava, Ph.D., associate dean for student services, University College, Texas State University 
  • Mary Ann Villarreal, Ph.D., associate vice provost for strategic initiatives, California State University, Fullerton 

Table discussions will also be part of the forum which will close with remarks from John Moder, Ph.D., HACU senior vice president/COO.
