The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently announced the 12 fellows of the 2015 class of the E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program. Their selection was based on the compatibility of their interests with USDA mission areas, as well as the value their experiences will add to their institutions' educational capacities.
HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and President Joseph I. Castro of Fresno State and co-chair of the USDA-HACU leadership group, participated in the Recognition Ceremony for the 2015 USDA E. Kika De La Garza Fellows during the group’s meeting on June 24, 2015. The leadership group is tasked to recommend policies and programs to strengthen USDA partnerships with HSIs, and provides leadership and strategic direction to the USDA Hispanic-Serving Institutions National Program Office.

The E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program brings together college, university, and high school faculty, staff, researchers and administrators to the benefit of both USDA and HSIs. Fellows enrich USDA with knowledge and experience in the challenges facing their communities and institutions while enhancing their professional growth and knowledge of USDA and the federal government, improving their teaching, student interaction and research programs at their institutions.
