Colorado State University–Pueblo wins HACU/Solution Generation Leadership in Climate Change Award 

Colorado State University – Pueblo was announced as the winner of the $10,000 Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Solution Generation Leadership in Climate Change Award at the HACU 29th Annual Conference Oct. 14 in Miami Beach, Florida.  

The university was selected from 17 applicants pursuing innovative sustainability efforts at their respective institutions. ecoAmerica’s Solution Generation reviewing board said Colorado State University – Pueblo stoodout for its emphasis on cultivating student leadership to implement an outreach initiative to fellow students and its surrounding communities.

The grant with will help CSU Pueblo fund student sustainability ambassador positions to drive awareness for green campaigns like “Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle.” Student sustainability ambassadors will reach out to and educate other students and faculty in classrooms and at campus events.

CSU Pueblo also plans to fund undergraduate climate and sustainability research. Specifically, students will research climate solutions tailored for the Pueblo community. Students will focus on local issues such as increasing energy efficiency for low-income housing, indoor environmental air quality for Pueblo residents and implementation of hybrid technologies to replace fossil fuel consumption.
